Anaya M. Baker

A few years ago I left the frozen tundra of Upstate New York, as well as a career in broadcasting, to become an impoverished freelance writer in sunny North Carolina. So far, I’ve published a few hundred articles on the web, for sites like Gather News and Politics, eHow, Helium, and of course, HubPages. I've done a lot of work for national real estate companies and location databes including Merchant Circle. I'm also currently working as a fact checker over at Helium. In print I've appeared in Baton Rouge Parenting Magazine, and as a frequent contributor to Moral Relativism Magazine.

While I was paying my dues in the television industry, I did manage to finish up a B.A. in English with emphasis on writing at Skidmore College. Right now I’m working towards a Masters degree at Duke University because I’m a complete glutton for self-punishment (hence my decision to become a writer).

Here on Hubpages I write on a variety of topics, including books, poets and poetry, gender and relationships, home remedies and holiday-themed cocktails. Hubpages is the place that I go to write whatever strikes my interest at the time, which more often than not tends to be on some obscure literary theme. Lately I’ve been working on some philosophy related stuff, and taking a closer look at just how those whole college ratings systems work.

My undergraduate thesis focused on exile literature, as well as mental illness literature as a subtopic of exile lit. At the moment I’m working on an anthology of exile lit which I hope to publish at a time well into the future.

I live and work in a restored cotton mill on the bank of the Haw River, which I talk about in more detail in the (oh so creatively titled) hub Rural Living in a Restored Cotton Mill.

I love to read, and spend a lot of time doing it. Check out Anaya M. Baker's Neverending List O'Books to see what I've read lately and which I'd recommend.

In my journey towards becoming a freelance writer, I’ve either tried or looked into a bunch of different sites. You can find a round up of sites, resources and employers here.

When I'm not having self-indulgent fun writing about whatever the heck I feel like here on HubPages, you can find me at:
